Celebrate Arbor Day by planting a tree... Everday can be your own special Arbor Day. Even if you plant just one tree this year, you will be doing something worthwhile. What can you do to encourage tree planting? Consider collecting and planting tree
seeds, dig up small trees in the forest to transplant into a meadow or cleared area, help out with a school or boy scout tree planting program, or give trees as gifts. Contact your state forestry department and see what other ways you can get involved
with trees. Give that some thought...
Happy Arbor Day! Plant a tree and watch it grow into something really big! Trees enrich our lives in so many ways, and the more we plant, the better off we shall all become - locally and globally.
There are over a 1,000 products we use every day that are derived from trees, and despite the critics, we have strong healthy forests in America. They offer so many benefits, from oxygen and cleaning the air of pollutants, to our home and garden
activities, as well as many other pluses. Make a list of all the benefits trees provide... That's what some of the school kids do at this time of the year, and may be worthwhile for all of us to again think about that.
Granted our forests and trees, whether in the urban setting or in the wild, are fragile and faced with many challenges, but overall, they are doing okay. Our commercial and public forest lands are fairly well managed, but the bulk of our forested land is
in private hands... regular people like you and us. As we move into the new millennium, let's renew our planting efforts and respect for our greatest national treasures - our trees and forests.
