Flowering Cherry Nursery Trees
Flowering Cherry Trees - Non-Fruiting, but Colorful!
Want early spring color in your yard? Consider the popular Flowering Cherries. This group of small trees produces masses of white to dark pink flowers before they open their leaves, and marks the beginning of spring! These are hardy over most of the
country, but make sure they get enough water, especially in the drier regions. Add a thick layer of mulch to help conserve the soil moisture and reduce the stress on the roots, the cherries appreciate that...
There are several types of Flowering Cherries we are making available, plus we are including the Flowering Almond, Wild Cherry, and the Black Cherry on this webpage. Although the Black Cherry tree will make tart edible cherries, you plant the other trees for their masses of flowers. Plant them about 10 to 20 feet apart, in reasonably good soil, full sun to slight shade, and just keep them moist. These are fairly fast growing, so even though they start off as small seedlings, in just a couple years, they will start blooming...
The Flowering Cherries and other trees are good for lines, borders, as focal points in the yard or landscape
design, or as specimen plants.
How to grow these. Simply stated, these grow best in moist well-drained fertile soils with full sun. Most soils can be alright, but plenty of water and some added fertilizer will improve their growth and survival. If your soils are rocky, heavy clay, or very sandy, then add compost or other materials mixed into the planting spot. Planting instructions are included with each order, or can be read on the Nursery webpage.
One other flowering trees that are very exciting and beautiful in the landscape design is the Bradford, Chanticleer, and Cleveland Select Flowering Pears. To learn more about them... Click here!

Thundercloud Flowering Plum - This is the tree to plant for those patios and limited space areas
where small-size and flowers are desired. Masses of pink flowers in the spring are followed by dark purple leaves until fall, on a tree that only grows 15 to 20 feet tall. Plant from Zones 4 to 10, in full sun to part shade, with moderate watering.
Newport Flowering Plum - Like the Thundercloud plant the Newport for those patios and limited
space areas where small-size and flowers are desired. Masses of pink flowers in the spring are followed by dark purple leaves until fall, on a tree that only grows 15 to 20 feet tall. The difference of the Newport is the topside of the leaves are purple,
and the undersides are green, a very attractive look! Plant from Zones 4 to 10, in full sun to part shade, with moderate watering.
The Flowering Cherries, Apricots, and Plums are really an incredible sight when they are in full bloom. The typical cherry bark on young trees is red, gray, or even black, and often smooth. The flowers on some species are white, and various shades of pink on other species. Some flowering trees, like the Flowering Almond, may have mixed colors.
