Welcome! Christmas trees, Conifers, and Evergreens, are available to you wherever you live - from the
cold of the New England states to the hot dry southwest.
The conifers are those evergreen trees that make cones, basically, but we think of all of the piney-type trees to be conifers... Most of these we generally talk about are in the Pine Family (Pinaceae), but some of the other conifers are Cedars and
Cypresses, Junipers, and so forth... Most of our evergreens are in the Pine Family.
These trees are popular for a number of uses, varying widely from large-scale reforestation plantings, Christmas tree farms, commercial and home landscaping, ornamental plantings, and for Bonsai. Some of these grow well in cold climates, others prefer
the warmer zones. Many like plenty of moisture, and some like drier well-drained ground. Every one seems to be unique and a little bit different than the next... and always enjoyable!

The terms we use for trees can be confusing, but there are differences between "Christmas trees", evergreens, and the conifers. Either way, there are a lot of varieties, shapes, sizes, and some color variations to chose from. Very simply put, "Christmas
Trees" are those evergreen conifers that are used during the holidays, specifically for the "tree". An "evergreen" refers to a tree or shrub that retains its leaves during all year, many of which are conifers that are used as Christmas trees. And of
course, "Conifers" refers to the cone-bearing class of trees, again, many can be used for the holidays, but not all conifers are evergreens (the Larch and Dawn Redwood are two examples that are deciduous-conifers).
Whichever term you like, in the landscape or home garden design, there is a broad selection to pick from. Many are great for privacy screens and windbreaks, and others are better as borders and fencelines. All can be planted en masse` as in reforestation
plantings, and there are those that make great trees for the holiday season.
