Why do many people look forward to the coming of autumn? The Colors, of course. There are many trees that turn the yellows, orange, and red colors we like, and many of those are maple trees. The Maples are popular for shade nearly nationwide, and
in almost all climates and growing conditions. The most popularly planted are the larger shade-tree types, such as the Sugar and Red Maples, but the ornamentals and shrub-types are growing in interest too.
We grow a variety of tree-form maples at our nursery, plus of the shrub-forms also. Many of these maples turn red, orange, or yellow colors in the fall. Next season offers more trees, new items, so keep the Catalog bookmarked...

The Sugar Maple tree, Red Maple tree, and Silver Maple trees are the better know shade trees. The Sugar Maple will turn yellow in the fall, and of course is the tree that produces the Maple Syrup. The Silver Maple tree will start off yellow,
sometimes with shades of orange or red, but then turns brown before the leaves drop. The Silver Maple tree is still a very pretty tree. And the Red Maple tree will of course turn red. Vine Maple will also turn yellow, and orange and red. The Amur Maple
variety we have is the "Flame", a very brilliant mix of yellow, orange, and red colors!
These maple trees are hardy and will grow in most climates. The Silver Maple tree, Red Maple tree, the Japanese Maples, and the Red Maple, all prefer full sun and a fair amount of water. The Sugar Maple tree and Vine Maple will do well in full sun, but
will also grow well in full shade. All of the maples trees will do best in good soils, but they can tolerate most soils conditions too. Give them a boost of fertilizer, and they'll grow better.
Plant the shade-tree maples from 8 to 15 feet apart.
But plant the shrub-maples about 4 to 8 feet apart.

There are two types of Maples - Shrub-form and Tree-form. The Red Maple, Sugar Maple, Silver Maple, and Norway Maple, are among the "tree-form types. These maples usually have a single trunk, and they will form a spreading umbrella-like
canopy. Therefore, you want to plant your maple trees in an area where they can spread their branches.
The "Shrub-form" maples, such as the Japanese ornamentals, Amur Flame, Vine Maple, etc. can have, or be trimmed to have a single trunk, but naturally they have multiple stems or more shrub-like growing habit. Plant these types as bonsai, or as privacy
screens, hedges, or in windbreaks.
