Our Location

Yes, we have made the move to North Carolina! Over the past years, we have moved the "functional" part of the nursery from Oregon to Florida, and more recently to North Carolina. This facility is relatively small, but very functional, in that we do much of the growing, shipping, and local sales from here. Yes, we are open to the public, so ask if you think you will be in the area, and we can offer you directions to get here... Technically, HQ is still in Oregon, with most ordering other functions, and production there.

As we are still settling in, there is a lot of work yet to get done. Please bear with the conitinuing changes and inconveniences. This may cause orders and emails to have minor delays, but we are doing our best to get the orders sent as quickly as possible. Shipping will continue all season long for some items, but as the weather changes, shipping and order activity will greatly change. Do ask if you have questions...

Yes... there is some old webpages out there with our former addresses. It will take time to get all of the street address changes made, but all regular mail would be forwarded, and we will eventually get every address on the webpages changed over. Our email addresses remain the same, just the physical location. We had been in the relocation process since summer 2005, and we are now finished and back into normal routines.

Why did we move from sunny south Florida? Firstly, it was the dollars. Shipping costs and the costs of operating are less. The center of our market area is in North Carolina, putting us closer to you. If you look at the delivery map below, your orders will be able to get to you quicker. Transit times will vary, but generally a large portion of you folks are now within three transit-days. That reduces the ever-increasing shipping costs. And if the plants get to you faster, the better condition they will be, which makes everyone happy. Lower capital and operating costs will be helpful as well.

Along with shipping and operation costs, the next major reason to move was the climate. Florida is great during the winter in some respects, but very challenging in the summer for other reasons. The warm winters made propagation and most outdoor activities easier, and the Spring through Fall high humidity was great for the plants. But we were greatly challenged trying to grow some of the northern trees in that climate, like Colorado Blue Spruce, Giant Sequoia, and Quaking Aspen. The new North Carolina location has a good climte to grow most of the trees most of the time, but somewhat limiting during the winter months. The new greenhouse will help control the climate for some of the trees and for propagation.

New products are another primary reason for the move. We can now cater more to the local markets with larger trees and potted plus maybe B&B items. We will be increasing our local presence as time goes on, and maybe offer local delivery. We are not a retail store... No, nothing even close, but we are locally active. If you rather pick up your internet order, or come by and we will sell direct. Appointments are always best and appreciated!

There are a number of other minor reasons for the move as well, yes, including the hurricanes...

Our Address is -
Empire National Nursery, LLC
6778 McPherson-Clay Road
Liberty, NC 27298

We are close to Greensboro (on the southeast side), about 12 miles south of Burlington, and less than an hour west of the Raliegh-Durham area. We like to say that our new location is between the Triad and Triangle areas. For local traffic, we are a bit challenging to find, but use a mapping program like GoogleMaps or MapQuest to get directions.

Retail and local traffic... Yes, we are set up for that in a limited capacity. If you are local, you can order on-line, then pick up your order yourself. Walk-in traffic by appointment... please. Most items would have to be lifted and carefully prepared as bareroot, so let us know if you are coming by so we can have your order ready for pick-up. Now there are some items potted, plus larger trees as well. The workload is heavy enough, but let us have some lead-time before visiting. Now this place will not be a "browse and shop" retail store... nothing like that at all. Deliveries are available but limited, and we can quote you for that.

We are excited about the new North Carolina facility... and we hope that we can better serve your needs.
