Shipping Information

Note - Our rates have changed as of 9/1/10. After three years of holding our shipping rates steady, we have made a switch. We have split the country (basically) in two zones, the eastern half, and the western half. Alaska and Hawaii are a separate zone. As shipping rates have gone up year after year, the costs to the western states is disproportionately higher than the eastern side. Shipping by the postal system and most carriers is determined and by the package weight, zip codes, and the package dimensions. Over the last couple of years, we have been paying quite a bit more in shipping than we were bringing in. We do cover part of the shipping costs, and glad to do so, but within guidelines.

Our Standard shipping service is US Priority Mail, and we do regularly use Fed-Ex Ground. We also use Fed-Ex Air (Express, 2nd Day, and Overnight), and each rate will be quoted by Fed-Ex and added to the order.

Our Standard Shipping & Handling Rate Schedule As of (09/01/10) -

We are using a simple zone system. Basically, the rates are a little bit higher for Zones 2, and modeerately higher for Zone 3. Presented as:

Shipping Rate Zones

Zone 1 - the eastern 37 states, including DC and PR.

Zone 2 - the western 11 states (CA, OR, WA, AZ, NM, NV, UT, MT, WY, ID, CO).

Zone 3 - AK and HI.

Shipping Rates

For Fed-Ex Air Services: Rate is quoted and added to sub-total;
For Large, Long, or Oversized Boxes (OS): Additional Fees will be added (varies per package, ave. $30).

Note - We do not ship outside of the USA at this time.

Shipping Information:

Depending on the workload, time of the season, and the ship-to location, shipment generally starts when the order is best able to send, and continues until the items are sold-out or seasonal factors such as the weather halts shipping. For Nursery items, general shipping starts in October, and goes through Spring. Non-nursery items ship all year. Some plant items are shippable year-round, whereas most are halted when they become less-shippable. The southern and northern parts of the country will have different shipping times due to weather factors. Some items ship all year, others have a very limited shipping-period. Always feel free to ask us... We can Book an order early and have it scheduled to ship at a later date, so let us know your needs. We try to get the orders processed and shipped as quickly as possible.

Our Standard shipping service is US Priority Mail. We do regularly use Fed-Ex Ground, typically for larger or oversized orders. 'Oversized' refers to item codes ending with (...-05), which we call the 'Talls5-6'. These longer and larger boxes will cost a lot more, and this rate will be determined at the time of shipment. When ordering, add $30 to the total if the order includes one of more of the 'Talls5-6'. Any excess payment will be returned, but we have to cover most of the shipping costs.

Important Note: The best way we ship the taller trees is by Ground. Shipping rates have gone up (again), but ground delivery is still the lowest cost method. Rather than stick the consumer with all of the shipping increases, we absorb part of it. Depending on the size of the shipping box, an 'oversize' fee of $30 will be added to the order. It is the trees with the item codes that end in (-05) which makes the boxes too long or large for regular shipping. These are considered 'oversized' and the carriers (all of them) add a huge fee for them. The oversized trees are noted as 'Talls5-6', with the item code ending (-05). The regular taller trees, and the 'Talls' ending with (-03), usually do not incur additional charges. We try our best to minimize the costs.

Delivery - Delivery times will depend on payment method, when we receive the order, shipping method, your plant zone, and seasonal influences. Should you have any questions, please ask...

The Shipping Carrier

Generally, we use US Priority Mail for the majority of the orders getting shipped. Fed-Ex Ground is used for larger orders or boxes. Because we are shipping live plants, often with leaves and actively growing, it is vital that they arrive quickly and be handled correctly. If you should have a problem with your plants, it is most likely due to the package and the carrier while it is in transit. Always contact us immediately...

Shipping Options:

Depending on the order, package weight and dimensions, the distance to travel, and the time of the season, we will switch between Fed-Ex Ground and Priority Mail. For taller, heavier, or more bulky items, we are more inclined to use Fed-Ex Ground. For packages that are longer or larger, a shipping sur-charge will be added. Should you want a delivery other than the postal system, please let us know so we can plan for it. Additional costs may apply.

US Priority Mail - Typically lower in cost for orders weighing less than 8 pounds, and often better for order totalling under $100. If you use a Post Office Box or Rural Route in your shipping address, then select this. Fed-Ex will not accept these address types. The postal service tries to deliver these packages anywhere in the country in 2-3 days, but delivery may take a week or longer in many cases. You best know your local postal service, so if you have doubts, then do supply us with a street address to ship by other means. Delivery Confirmation and Insurance services are available at cost. Be Forewarned - the greatest number of problems, replacement requests, and complaints, have been because of the time delays and mishandling the packages by the postal service. For taller plants and larger orders, we use Fed-Ex Ground or Fed-Ex Air, which has far fewer problems. For packages that are longer or larger, a shipping sur-charge will be added.

Transit time map from Fed-Ex

Fed-Ex Ground - Similar to UPS, packages are sent by ground transportation. Depending on your delivery-zone, the package can take 2 to 7 business-days to reach you. Although packages are typically not delivered on Saturdays, they are in transit. There is no delivery or package movement on Sundays. Fed-Ex requires a street address, so no Post Office Boxes or rural routes. Overall a pretty good service, and each package can be tracked. Insurance can be added. For orders greater than $100, or for tall or bulky items, this is a good choice. We will figure the shipping cost as our basic rate as outlined above, but over-sized boxes and other factors will incur a surcharge.

Important Note: Depending on the size of the shipping box, an "oversize" fee of $30 will be added. It is the trees with the item codes that end in (-05) which makes the boxes too long or large for regular shipping. These are considered "oversized" and the carriers (all of them) add a huge fee for them. The oversized trees are noted as "Talls5-6", with the item code ending (-05).

Fed-Ex Economy (Air) - The lowest cost of the Fed-Ex Air is Economy, with delivery time of typically 2-3 days. The cost is about the same as UPS 3 Day. Very good delivery and handling. We normally ship on Mondays and Tuesdays. Each package can be tracked, and insurance is an option. They do not deliver to Post Office Boxes or Rural Routes. For orders greater than $100, during warm weather, or for immediate delivery, this is a good choice. We will get a quote for the shipping cost based on package weight, its dimensions, and ship-to zip code. The order total will be adjusted accordingly. This service is not offered to all areas.

Fed-Ex 2nd Day (Air)- The cost is about the same as UPS 2nd Day, and they have Very Good delivery and handling. Fed-Ex does not deliver this type package on weekends, unless you want to pay the Saturday delivery fee (not available to most areas). Each package can be tracked, and they have insurance options. They do not deliver to Post Office Boxes or rural routes. For orders greater than $100, and for immediate delivery, this is the Best choice. We normally ship on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. We will get a quote for the shipping cost based on package weight, dimensions, and the ship-to zip code. The order total will be adjusted accordingly.

Fed-Ex Overnight (Air) - The best of all delivery services, for that delicate, "absolutely needed" item, or valuable shipment. This is the way to go, BUT the cost is the highest (for most time-sensitive orders, 2nd day service is just as good, and will cost about half). The cost will be high, but delivery and handling is typically the best! This also will be quoted as mentioned for the other air-delivery services. The order total will be adjusted accordingly.

For all packages that are longer or larger, a shipping sur-charge will be added.

For commercial or wholesale orders, other sale-specific terms and conditions will apply.

Important Note - The shipping carriers, whether the postal service, Fed-Ex, or other, Do Not make any guarantees about package handling or even delivery. Once the order is out of our hands, it is really difficult to know what happens to it. Read our limited guarantees, and considering the delivery, we would ask you consider getting the Plant-Insurance. We don't push it very much, but it is a one-year guarantee, a really worthwhile program and sensible investment for your order.

If you are in the southwest Missouri area, we welcome your visit. Please contact us before showing up... so we can spend the time with you. We have a limited staff and scheduled workload, so advanced notice of a possible visit is very helpful and appreciated.
