Ameri-Willow -America's Fastest Growing Tree for Privacy Screens
Need a tree for a privacy screen or windbreak? Need something that will grow FAST to block out those nosey neighbors? Our Hybrid Willow Tree, called the Ameri-Willow, is very popular for planting around the home or farm as a privacy screen or windbreak.
The Ameri-Willow is great for landscaping or garden projects, and they can be used in reforestation plantings! Why? Because this tree grows very fast! Average first year growth is 8 feet, and we have had people tell us they have had up to 15 in the
first year!
The Ameri-Willow is a tree that may well be the "fastest growing tree in America". There is no doubt that this tree grows fast! They can grow in most types of soil and growing conditions, and as long as they get plenty of water and sun, they will grow well. The best conditions are a loose soil but even heavy clay or rocky soil types can be fine, but the growth rate will likely be slower. The keys for success are full sun, good soil, and plenty of water. These willows will drop their leaves in the fall like most broadleaf trees, but the mass of stems will add some screening during the winter months. Many people plant additonal rows of the Ameri-Willow for a screen that fills in faster, and others add a row of evergreens for that solidness during the winter months.
Is this the same as the Aus-Tree? No... There are many hybrid willows out there, and Ours is a different hybrid-willow tree. Be cautious of the claims other companies make about their products. The Ameri-Willow is a good tree for privacy screens, windbreaks, fast growing hedges, and other plantings where fast-growth is desired.
Do read what others have said, and learn for yourselves. Then try these trees to see why we love the Ameri-Willow! You will be happy with these seedlings, grown in our North Carolina nursery, and you might well be amazed.
Watch as these seedlings start out as "sticks" then grow up to eight feet or more in the first season, and then even
more during the following years. Planting conditions do vary widely nationwide, so it is a real challenge to say what these will do in your area. But if planted early in the spring, on average, 8 feet of growth is
common in the first year. These will live up to 70 or more years, but the growth rate slows down at about age ten.
You can order a single tree seedling, or as many trees and plants as you want from Empire National Nursery, LLC. Plant the Ameri-Willow about five to six feet apart. Or, you can plant multiple off-set rows at eight to ten feet apart which will develop a solid "green wall" in just a couple years! You will receive well-rooted tree seedlings, plus planting instructions, and we can ship these at just about any time of the year, even during the middle of summer!

Use the Ameri-Willow Quick Form
We have a good supply of the Ameri-Willow - Talls (Item Code: FGT-AW-03). Very popular, these older trees are larger and more hefty than the Regular size. Both sizes are trimmed back, well-packaged, and easy to ship. Good supply of the Talls... but they
can sell-out.
Now the "Talls5-6" are more hefty trees. These are trimmed back to about 60+ inches, and these are in limited supply. And because these are proportionally much larger trees, the shipping will be Fed-Ex Ground, and the rate will be quoted and determined
at the time of packing (generally in the $20-30 range). The shipping will cost more, but if you want the larger trees, these are the ones to get...

Shipping and timing are always good questions... The Ameri-Willow hybrid can be shipped while dormant or during the growing
season. We generally start shipments to the northern states in April as the frosts and winter fades, but the southern states can receive the trees most of the year. If shipped during the growing season, we trim them back to look more like sticks,
leafless, and they typically resprout within a couple weeks after planting. What we do is trim back some of the young growth and leaves. This reduces the stress on the plant, and although they may wilt for a short time during the shipping, these
seedlings will rebound with zeal! It sounds strange, but we use a a time-tested process that produces excellent success. 
Shipment is normally Fed-Ex Ground, but Priority Mail and 2nd Day delivery is also used. The Policies webpage explains more about the shipping... and worth reading. Once your package arrives, you will want to carefully take your Ameri-Willow trees out of
the packaging materials and water them, or even soak them in a bucket for a few minutes. Plant them as soon as possible, place a thick mulch layer around them, and keep watered. It's really a very simple process...
You can plant the Ameri- Willows as close as five feet apart, or up to ten feet between trees for an effective "green screen" or border. They will grow to about ten to twelve feet wide, and the Ameri-Willow can be easily trimmed or shaped. By the time your trees arrive, you will have likely prepared the planting area, removing weeds, maybe tilling the ground, or even putting up animal control fencing (if deer or other animals are a problem).
We will provide you with tree seedling planting instructions, but planting is very easy. Simply, make a hole about 12 inches wide, 12 inches deep, spread the roots out, then re-fill the hole. Do plant the Ameri-Willow deeper than the soil-line to promote additional root formation. You don't need to add anything to your soil unless you have heavy clay, rock, or other limiting conditions. If you need to, you can mix in some compost, or other soil amendments to break-up the soil, so then the planting hole would need to be a little larger.
After the trees are planted, water them generously. Make sure they are watered and kept moist, especially as the weather gets hot. Do put a thick mulch layer around the trees. If you need to, you can provide temporary shading by attaching a piece of cardboard onto a stake placed on the south side of the tree. Blocking the sun for a few hours during the middle of the day can be very beneficial, especially during the first summer. Until Ameri-Willow seedlings are established, they will need a good drink every couple of days or so (depending on your soil conditions and the weather). Just water as needed. A drip system or sprinkler set up works great too.
Putting a thick layer of mulch around trees and shrubs is always a good idea. The benefits of mulching include soil water conservation, weed control, insulation during the colder months, improved nutrient cycling, as well as keeping the soil temperature around the tree cooler during the summer (which reduces stress on the roots). Use bark or wood chips, straw, lawn clippings, leaves, compost, or other organic materials, at least several inches deep.
Ameri-Willows grow fast, and they will grow best when given plenty of water and some fertilizer. When to fertilize? The tree leaves will start to turn yellow, but plan on at least an early spring feeding and then again in mid-summer. If possible, weekly or monthly fertilizing assures a steady supply of nutrients for the roots. The growth process demands a lot of nitrogen, singly the best nutrient, and any fertilizer can work fine. You might consider something like Miracle-Grow or Peter's, and even lawn fertilizer that is high in nitrogen. The added nitrogen will help the other soil nutrients become more available, and also hastens the breakdown of organic material. Make sure they get watered well after you fertilize to reduce the chance of "burning" the feeder roots. Fertilizer "packets", tablets, or stakes can work also.
